Things like hospitals/fire stations/schools/police station's funding can be adjusted. But manage your budget, that's the important thing in this game. Placing fire stations/ police stations/ hospitals will have many positive effects for your city. But if you ever need money, and you have positive cash flow you can let the simulation run a little bit (at least in the beginning) without any problems.Įverything in this game does something.

Let the simulation run and grow slowly after I set up a small city, I let the simulation run and I get a base population and with a positive monthly income and with time, I'll get a lot of simoleons to build. these will give you information about your city and let you know what you need/ need to work on/ etc. Keep an eye on your RCI indicator, your data graphs, data views, and advisers. Another thing I do, is plop an elementary school and a little bit later a high school to get my sims educated quickly. This is all part of making good financial decisions and managing your budget.
Simcity 4 tips install#
Once your demand for water grows again, destroy all 6 of the water towers and install a water pump. What you'll want to do is as you need more and more water, you'll want to keep adding water towers until you have 6 of them which costs you 300 a month, 50$ less than a water pump.

You wont want that yet because you don't need it. Now, the water tower costs 50$/month and the water pump costs 350. and place pipe from the water tower to all zones, you can place more pipe as your city grows. Now create a water system, place a basic water tower far away from your industrial zone. Eventually, you'll whole city will be zoned and you will have no power lines. Once the power line touches a zone, the whole zone is powered, and any adjacent zones connected to that. Now, at first you'll need to connect power lines to your zones. you'll want to keep it far away because the pollution brings down the desirability. Put a natural gas or coal power plant in the farthest corner of your map close to your industrial zone. Now that you have roads and zones you'll need power and water. They don't have to be all parks, some of the parks and plazas affect things differently but they all raise value and desirability. Starting the game off with no dirty industry has worked just fine for me and has greatly reduced my pollution)(I also don't create any agricultural zones).Īdd some parks to the residential areas to make it desirable, same to the commercial areas. I do this because dirty industry creates a lot of pollution. (what I do: I raise taxes on dirty industry to 20% so that they will not move in and set up shop, only manufacturing industrial will fill the zones. Starting at medium density saves you from upgrading another time.
Simcity 4 tips upgrade#
You'll upgrade it to high density later but for now it's too expensive. Lay out about 2 parts residential 1 part commercial 1, industrial. Keep your residential far away from your industrial. Now, figure out where you want your three zones to be (residential, commercial, industrial). I did this to reduce the amount of intersections which can cause traffic congestion. Notice the roads aren't connected at both sides to the avenues. This is a close up of the middle section, or how my roads are organized. This breaks off the map into segments where in order to get from one to the other the sims have to take the highway. Notice how my avenues go through the highway but some do not connect with others. I have a rail line inthere but ignore that for now. I struggled with traffic for a while until I figured out this city plan that works extremely efficiently.Īs you can see i have avenues, roads, and highways (low, medium, high density). Traffic is your enemy, it can indicate things like where people are shopping and how they are traveling but a lot of traffic will affect your city and make your sims unhappy. Sims take the shortest route btw, if there's a long low density straight shot to their destination and an out of the way but quicker route via a highway they will ignore the highway and travel on the road no matter the traffic. It's much easier to plan ahead then to have to add in a highway later. Don't add trains or subways yet but be prepared for traffic. Plan ahead and prepare a road system for a big city. (Simcity is a simulation so there's always more than one way to do things) I'll give yah some quick pointers to get started.
